Directions: Think about the list of possible persuasive topics we discussed in class (i.e., video games, cell phones, Internet usage, etc.). Come up with three different thesis statements about a persuasive topic (your statements can be about anything–even those topics not on our list).
Then, evaluate one another’s statements. Do you feel as though someone’s thesis statement is too vague or general? Do you feel like one is really intriguing? Do you feel as though the language of a particular statement needs some revision?
Respond to at least one thesis statement posted by someone else.

Don’t forget the three rules of a thesis statement–and please make sure you are using proper punctuation, grammar and spelling. I see some comments that are not adhering fully to our classroom expectations.

Beth, I liked your comment about older people thinking cell phones are bad, but it could be a little more specific.

For Ellie and ELizabeth, I disagree with the statement older people dislike cell phones and technology, because I know many older people who are into technology, like once I was in a TV store with my parents and there were older people everywhere-playing video games and such. I think they just don’t want our lives to revolve around our cell phones

People who are introduced to reading books at a young age will read more books when they are older. Another thing that might affect that are the books you read. Example if you first read a boring book you might have a bad experience with reading, but if you first read, say Harry Potter ( or twilight!!!!! for girls) you might be more interested on picking up another book.

One reason children bully others at school is because they are having or have had problems at home.

we live with so much convience in our lives, it’s amazing what it’s like without it. All this new technology……. but that’s what inventing is all about, removing the labor for others. Just reading all these thesises things makes it seem like we hate tech advancements (no offense)!
September 18, 2008 at 5:57 pm
It takes one person to do something different to start something new. Like with Global Warming, if we go think about recycling, and say to ourselves ” everyone else is trying, so I don’t have to”, that’s what’s causing all this. I’m not sure what global warming is really about, but even if it isn’t our fault, we can still try and prevent it.
